“Together, the two local TV newscasts attract nearly 20,000 households at 6 p.m. These programs won’t soon be challenging the market leader, WFTV-Channel 9, which commands eight times that audience in the time slot.

But the telecasts on Spanish-language WVEN-Channel 26 and WTMO-Channel 15 underscore the changing nature of Central Florida. The stations are serving an audience that’s rapidly growing and whose influence might not be reflected in the Nielsen ratings. Of the 3,500 households that Central Florida adds each month, nearly 1,000 are Hispanic, Nielsen Media Research estimates.”
