“KLBB 1440 AM, the Big Band radio station, switched formats Friday, becoming a Spanish- language station, and Glenn and Benny moved to the weaker signal on KLBP 1470 AM. Davidson Media Group took ownership of KLBB (and sister station KLBP) in September, adding to its multicultural broadcast holdings. Davidson is leasing the station to Minneapolis nightclub El Nuevo Rodeo, which is providing local programming on the station.
“That’s what we like to do,” says Mike Mazursky, vice president of sales and marketing for Davidson. “We form strategic partnerships with a local broadcaster who wants a radio station but can’t afford it.” KLBB 1440 AM becomes one of more than 900 Spanish- language stations in the United States, a number that has doubled in the last five years, according to Mazursky.”
