“Jefferson County has more Hispanics than any other Alabama county, according to U.S. Census estimates in 2004, and that official count of 14,258 is widely considered low. Shelby, Blount and Chilton counties are among the 10 fastest-growing counties for Hispanics since 1990. And the Hispanic populations of Franklin, DeKalb and Marshall counties have increased more than 2,000 percent since 1990, the biggest surges among Alabama counties, though the total numbers are still low.”
