Rascal and Chico Rico had engineered a radio show in Arizona when Clear Channel came to them with the idea of moving the show to the much bigger Houston market as the flagship on a new station with a new format dubbed “hurban” for Hispanic urban.
U.S. Census figures show its market is growing. In 2002, 66 percent of Hispanics were under 34, and 40 percent of the Hispanic population was foreign-born. Meaning that Mega’s demographic is abundant: 22 million Hispanics nationwide were U.S.-born. Almost 25 million Hispanics under 34.”
