“Andrew Hill High School Spanish teacher Juan Parchido looked hard for a direct translation of “bully” in Spanish but couldn’t find one. Nor could he find one in Vietnamese. And if you want to explain bullying and why it’s important to speak up about it, putting the concept into words is crucial.

By Saturday, Parchido had found several words that could describe bullying’s array of verbal abuse, physical assaults and social shunning in a way he hoped would spark recognition in a small group of Spanish- and Vietnamese-speaking parents there for a special workshop at the San Jose school.”
