“Federal appeals Judge Samuel Alito’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday was not a surprise to some Valley women and minorities, but they said President Bush still had let them down.

More than a missed opportunity, they said, Alito’s nomination was an insult. Bush reaffirmed the message that he does not believe there are qualified women or minorities for the position, they said, adding that Alito’s confirmation for the high court could threaten the future of reproductive- and affirmative-action-related issues. “
