“Al Lopez, one of baseball’s most durable catchers and the oldest member of the Hall of Fame, was the last manager to lead the Chicago White Sox to the World Series - until last week. Lopez, who worked with the likes of Bob Feller, Dizzy Dean and Dazzy Vance, died Sunday at age 97 - just four days after seeing his former team win its first World Series since 1917. Nicknamed “El Senor” for his Hispanic heritage, Lopez had been hospitalized in his hometown of Tampa since suffering a heart attack Friday at the home of his son, Al Lopez Jr., 63, who announced his father’s death. His status as the oldest living Hall of Fame member was verified by Hall spokesman Jeff Idelson.”
