“VERACRUZ Lured by the mystery of the Maya civilization, Mel Gibson is producing his latest epic film in Veracruz in a dialect of the Maya language: a project he hopes will “make the language cool again,” the actor/director said Friday.
“The Maya culture is steeped in so many mysteries ”¦ it’s just fascinating,” said Gibson during a press event for “Apocolypto,” a movie whose title translates as “new beginning” in ancient Greek but that will be set in the context of pre-Hispanic Maya civilization.”
