“The dean of the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s School of Nursing, Lora Lacey-Haun, RN, Ph.D., announced to a recent gathering of nursing faculty, students and community leaders that Latino nursing students – undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates – are urgently needed.
“The nursing shortage is serious, both nationally and locally,” she said. “The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates we will need nearly 1.8 million nurses nationwide to fulfill the health care needs of an aging population. In Missouri, a 25 percent shortage of registered nurses is anticipated by 2020.””
