Radio station makes abrupt format switch

“Fort Myers Broadcasting, the owner of WINK-TV and several radio stations, including the popular Spanish-language “Latino 97.7 FM,” has taken over operations at WPTK. Station managers say the huge growth in Southwest Florida’s Hispanic population and the success of 97.7 led to the decision.

“Just as you have different (stations) that specialize in different types of rock formats and different types of country formats, we’re trying to do the same thing with Spanish-language stations,” said Wayne Simons, general manager of Fort Myers Broadcasting’s radio stations.”
