“A couple of months ago, a reader requested a recipe for horchata, the creamy, nondairy beverage that’s served at some Mexican restaurants.

The thirst-quencher was brought to North America by the Spanish, who originally made the drink with ground melon seeds, according to “America’s First Cuisine.” Later, almonds and rice made their way into the recipe.”
