“That’s especially true when it comes to AIDS. Hardly any Latina will publicly admit to having AIDS for fear of being stigmatized by their familia, amigos and la comunidad. They think people will think they’re whores or it’s their fault. When in reality, in a lot of cases, it’s the men who have infected their unsuspecting wives and novias.
But the time has come when we HAVE to talk about it. Since 1990, the number of Latinas with AIDS has increased by 53 percent.”
