“500 Latino students, faculty, and legal practitioners will participate in the Ninth Annual National Latina/o Law Student Association (NLLSA) Conference from Oct. 20-23, 2005. The event will be held at the American University, Washington College of Law, 4801 Massachusetts Ave., NW. This is the first time in its history that the conference has been held in Washington, D.C., and only the second time it has been held outside of the Southwest.

The NLLSA Conference is a student-led conference that creates a forum for law students to discuss the most important legal issues in the Latina/o community with practitioners, professors, and policy makers. Among the topics to be discussed will be economic empowerment and workers’ rights and labor relations. A former death-row inmate will discuss his perspective on death row and the criminal justice system. In addition, there will be concurrent workshops on issues such as trafficking, education, access to healthcare, and the war on terror. “
