A while back I thought that for the heck of it I would apply for media credentials to the Latin Grammys. I wanted to be the first blogger to cover them. As I expected, my application was declined. I just received the e-mail today. Why would I want to cover the Latin Grammys? Well first off, I run three blogs:

So you could say that I have a strong interest in Latin Music and Hispanic-Latino affairs (among other things).

I wasn’t surprised by the denial. In fact, if I had been granted permission to attend, I would have been astounded as I personally think that the Music industry hasn’t ‘gotten’ the Internet and the digital age. If it weren’t for iTunes, who knows where they would be. Try going to a record label’s website to find information, talk about navigating a maze to reach nothing many times. And why, oh, why do so many bands have Flash intro pages or site entirely in Flash? Anyway, there simply seems to exist a gap somewhere (if not several places) in the chain of communication.

So I am not going to the Latin Grammys. Sorry Mom. I was going to visit her if I went to LA..

Just the other day I recalculated the traffic my blogs receive spurred by a request from someone at Lopez Negrete and I was astonished to learn that combined they are getting on average 3500+ visitors and 14,000+ pageviews per day according to Urchin. That is 100,000+ visitors and 400,000+ pageviews a month. Wow and thank you to everyone! I also figured out that these three blogs have combined more than 13,000 posts. I have been a busy little beaver. Check out the stats here.

Can you imagine the potential buzz having a blogger at the Latin Grammys could have generated? Especially if I could have done it live. The blogosphere might have even been interested, if but for a moment, in Latin Music and let me tell you that moment may be worth more than a 30 second spot on a major network. Their loss, literally.

Yes, I suppose I am a bit disappointed, but as I said I am not surprised in the least.

So on November 3rd, I am going to sit in front of my TV and watch the Latin Grammys in Spanish. And let me tell you while I can speak and understand Spanish (to a decent degree), I am one of those thousands (if not millions) of Hispanics who are more comfortable in English than Spanish. I just hope they use captions. During the Premios Juventuds if you didn’t know what a performer looked like you were in the dark as to who they were. I was watching with a friend and I had to tell her who most of them were.

I will be cross-posting this at Ticias.com, LatinMusicNews.com, HispanicTips.com and CreativeInteligencia.com

Focus on Latin Grammys: If the Latin Grammys is going to be only in Spanish on a Spanish Network (Univisión) why put out Press Releases in English, why bother with an English name? It is Los Grammys Latinos. ¿Entiendes?
