Recipes help immigrants preserve their culture.

Latino families in the Ozarks say passing on traditions ”” especially family recipes ”” is an important part of keeping their culture vibrant as they live and work in a new country.

“I think it is so important to carry on the traditional foods. We don’t need to lose what we already have and it’s good for the next generations,” says Alma Villagrana, a mother of two and native of Torreon, in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila. She came to the United States 12 years ago.
