Immigrants from Mexico and Central America are increasingly opening businesses in Santa Fe, often juggling salaried jobs with entrepreneurship. Among the businesses that have opened in the last six months are a Mexican sandwich store, a bakery, two clothing stores, an ice-cream shop and a grocery store. Zapatos Gala, which sells Mexican huaraches and boots along with everyday shoes for kids and adults opened last Friday.
