For Mexican expatriates, ‘this is our moment’

Beginning today, millions of Mexican expatriates with voting credentials in their homeland can download forms or pick them up from the Mexican consulates to register to participate in the July 2, 2006 presidential election.

Already, some Mexicans in North Texas are engaged with their countrymen on both sides of the border to help elect the next president. Their ability to participate comes from a change in Mexico’s electoral laws that permits Mexican expatriates to help elect a successor to President Vicente Fox, who under Mexican law cannot seek re-election.
