Iowans aid Mexican sister state with emergency dispatch setup

Wide-eyed and grinning, Jose Casares peered inside helicopter ambulance Mercy One, asking questions so quickly that his translator struggled to keep up.

But Casares, a guest from Merida, Mexico, wasn’t just a curious bystander. As an EMT, 911 coordinator and state Red Cross instructor in the southeastern Mexican peninsula state of Yucatan, Casares had a professional interest in the inner workings of the copter.
