Knowledge is Power!

Teresa Martinez, host of Polk Government Television’s Hispanic-targeted show “Comunidad Viva” and a Cuban immigrant herself, produced the film, her first documentary.

The 90-minute presentation, which will air several times on PGTV starting Sunday, narrates stories of Polk County Cubans who bravely left their native island starting in 1959, fleeing when the Fidel Castro revolution overthrew Fulgencio Batista’s government, confiscating more than 55,000 small businesses and leaving locals with nothing to call their own. They found themselves having to search for their now-lost freedom on American soil.
