Recognizing the increasing numbers of Spanish-speaking people in Cabarrus County, local health officials have launched an effort to spread breast-cancer awareness among Latino women.

The program — called Hermanas Unidas Contra El Cancer (Sisters United Against Cancer) — meets at 10 a.m. every other Friday at the Hispanic Learning Center on Kerr Street in Concord.
