Former leader of La Raza council Yzaguirre joins round table as expert

When Raul Yzaguirre, former head of the National Council of La Raza, was a member of his high school debate team in the 1950s, one of the questions he faced at matches was whether the federal government should fund education.

A lot has changed since then, and the U.S. government funds about 48 percent of primary and secondary school budgets nationwide. But it’s still not enough, Yzaguirre told a crowd at the University of Texas-Pan American’s Hispanic Engineering, Science & Technology Week.
