Three Latino members of the Staten Island community were recognized as “advocates for the less fortunate” during the Hispanic Heritage Month Ceremony held in Brighton Heights Reformed Church, St. George, last night.

Gonzalo Mercado of Brooklyn, a native of Chile, is an advocate for immigrants on Staten Island, providing aid and social services through Project Hospitality and El Centro de Hospitalidad (El Centro).
