Today is the day when libraries nationwide - including the Allen Public Library — begin to celebrate the heritage of one of the nation’s fastest growing populations: Hispanic Americans.
Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins today and runs till Oct. 15, celebrates the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries - Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on Sept. 16, and Chile on Sept. 18.
