Pomona’s first Hispanic mayor dies of cancer at age 64

POMONA, Calif. - Mayor Edward Cortez, who was the city’s first Hispanic mayor and also its longest-serving, died early Tuesday. He was 64.

Cortez died of cancer at 2 a.m. at the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, said city spokeswoman Monique Valadez.
