To ensure that Hispanic teens aren’t thrown off track into drug use or gangs, prevention leaders in Atlanta, Ga. launched an after-school program as part of their community anti-drug strategy that provides students with the skills to better cope with acculturation and resist peer pressure to join gangs or use illegal drugs.
The program grew from an hour-long class for 10 middle school boys to a two-day-a-week program that serves 250 elementary and middle school girls and boys.
