Knowledge is Power!
They are living a story common for U.S. immigrants throughout the nation’s history. It is a story of struggle. And hopefully, it will end in triumph for the Mendiola family.
They had just gotten off a bus and were headed back to De Colores, a shelter for battered Spanish-speaking women and their children. Mendiola and her family are one of 24 others residing at the shelter.
When asked where the father was, Mendiola said, “No esta.”
