People age 65 and older take more prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines than any other age group. This same group also has the most victims of health care fraud. The reason for both statistics is the same. Older people tend to have more long-term chronic illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. And, because living with a chronic illness can be difficult, seniors may be more vulnerable to the fantastic claims made by those who sell unproven remedies.
