Latino affairs official to leave for Minnesota

John-Paul Chaisson-Cardenas , an administrator with the state Division of Latino Affairs and the highest-ranking Latino in state government, has accepted a job in Minnesota to help rural Latinos in eight states, including Iowa.

Chaisson, 34, an immigrant from Guatemala who came to Iowa in 1993 to attend the University of Iowa, will lead the the Rural Latino Capacity Building Initiative with the Northwest Area Foundation in St. Paul. His last day with Iowa’s agency is Aug. 11.
