Mitchell is part of a salsa movement that’s reaching the craze stage nationally: Search for “salsa dancing” on the Internet, and you’ll get more than 700,000 hits.

Salsa is a Caribbean rhythm of Latin music and dance that spread through the United States during the late ’60s and ’70s, when an increasing number of Latinos moved to New York for employment.

In Hartford, there are now several upscale dance clubs and restaurants targeting the salsa-loving audience.
