The Rev. Rudy Gutierrez, pastor of Arkadelphia’s La Primera Iglesia Bautista, a Baptist church, said Friday that the arrests had affected 30 to 35 children, including five or six infants. The others ranged in age from 3 to 18, he said. “It’s a serious situation for the Hispanic people,” he said.

At the time of the raid, most of the children were with friends, relatives, baby sitters or at daycare centers. Some of the older children were home alone, he said.

His church took in “probably eight” children who did not immediately have someone to care for them, Gutierrez said. He said those children, along with the others, eventually were united with relatives or family friends.
