A few common misconceptions about the Latino community in California

The Latino population in California comprises 32 percent of the state’s 33.8 million people. According to the census projections, by 2040 half of Californians will be Latino. Given these astonishing numbers I felt it imperative to dispel some common misconceptions about the Latino community.

Not all Latinos who live in California are Mexican – the Mexican community makes up 78 percent of the Latino population in California. The rest of the Latinos in California are South Americans, other Central Americans, Salvadorians, and others.
