“Unresponsive’ Nielsen attacked at Senate hearing on TV ratings law

Accusations of undercounting black and Hispanic TV viewers followed the launch of many LPM services last year. Nielsen blamed these attacks on TV stations who were concerned their ratings would slip in the move away from paper diaries.

But Tribune Broadcasting’s president Patrick Mullen, speaking in support of the FAIR Ratings bill, said Nielsen had rejected the “legitimate concerns” of Tribune and 17 other broadcasters, who wrote to Nielsen in May calling for the agency to postpone the launch of more LPM services until the MRC deemed the existing ones to be “reliable”.
