I know, I know this isn’t really hispanic news, but I love avocados. What can I say?

A futuristic strategy room here run by the Hass Board looks like something out of a movie. It has five flat-screen monitors, radar weather displays, a video conferencing setup and a thick glass wall with a map of the world etched on it that lights up to show a frost in , for example, or a dock strike in Los Angeles.

It’s a stark contrast from the groves where avocados grow. But when world events like weather and strikes could affect a U.S. market worth up to $700 million – a market that is already bracing for increased Mexican imports – you need all the high-tech market research help you can get.
