Knowledge is Power!

I launched this site a little more than 2 weeks ago, right around our nation’s birthday. I had the idea for this site in a kind of flash. You know what I am talking about.

I have been doing this with my latin music site, ticias.com, for over a year, collecting over 7000 posts. I kept coming across stories that I thought were worth collecting or reading that didn’t have to do with latin music but did have to do with hispanics and latinos here in the US.

So I launched hispanictips and planned the launching of another idea that has yet to see the light of the web.

In these 2 weeks I have learned and digested quite a bit of info on the subject of hispanics and our impact on the US, collecting 481 ‘tips’ in this time.

I would break down my observations into 3 categories

  • hispanics everywhere
  • hispanic info on the web
  • hispanic impact

Here are my observations by category

  • hispanics everywhere
    • I can and can’t believe the amount of stories about hispanics in smaller communities
    • hispanics have definitely spread everywhere and many places still aren’t ready for them
  • hispanic info on the web
    • type ‘hispanic news’ into google and the top ten results are pretty sad.
      • i guess that is good for me, i mean i can’t find one other site that has even 10 daily stories about hispanics while i am averaging around 30 and I know I am missing stuff.
    • the blogosphere is populated with a lot of junk and spam sites. tag spam is rampant
    • i can’t believe the amount of copyright infringement in the blogosphere, whole articles copied and pasted is bad enough but sometimes there isn’t even attribution or a link back. fair use has its limits and I think many many bloggers good and bad are going to one day find out that they are guilty and I can’t even begin to guess at the results.
      • i have tried, in fact bent over backwards, to provide attribution, tips and follow fair use. of course, i will never be as rich in keywords or subject matter as other sites because I am an aggregator, a collector. I have plans for my own content and my own commentaries but probably I will always be more of an aggregator.
  • hispanic impact
    • wake up and smell the cafe
    • hispanics are impacting all walks of life here in the US. to ignore this is foolish
    • from a potential supreme court nomination to lesser political offices to business to education to you name it
    • wake up and smell the cafe

That said there are a lot of wonderful things happening out there across our states and the internet. I hope to continue learning and observing the growing role and impact hispanics will have on our country. Vamos a ver.
