In 2000, the high school dropout rate for Hispanics was 28 percent, higher than the 7 percent rate for Whites and the 13 percent rate for Blacks, according to the National Center for Education.

And the same discrepancy exists locally at Boca Raton Community High School, according to principal Geoff McKee. In 2005, the dropout rate at his school was 3.4 percent for Hispanics compared to 3.18 percent for other students.
